Design duration
Salinity Exclusion and Freshwater Retention: To preclude salinity intrusion and retain freshwater on the Cai River, ensuring a stable raw water source for domestic water supply and industrial production in Nha Trang City.
Climate Change Response: To mitigate salinity intrusion, proactively implement drought control measures, and respond to climate change impacts in the downstream river basin area.
Socio-Economic Development: To improve the conditions for water resource exploitation and utilization, contributing to the socio-economic, tourism, and urban development of Nha Trang.
Integrated Functions: To integrate waterway navigation (via a Navigation Lock/Ship Lock) and enhance the capacity for Flow Regulation, thereby improving the river’s ecological environment.
The Salinity Barrier project is a Provincial-Scale Work (Level II/III) and is designed with synchronized components, including: the Salinity Barrier Dam/Sluice Structure, Navigation Lock (Ship Lock), Traffic Bridge, and Operation and Management Facilities.
The primary structural material is Reinforced Concrete (RC). The control gates are operated by a modern Hydraulic Cylinder System, ensuring flexible operation based on the water level and the prevailing salinity intrusion conditions.
The Project’s Detailed Engineering Design (Construction Drawings) and Construction Cost Estimate have been approved by a Decision of the Provincial People’s Committee (PPC Decision), including a detailed breakdown of the cost structure and financing from the State Budget Capital.

Total Approved Cost: The total cost determined by the approval decision (comprising Construction, Equipment, Project Management (PM), Consultancy, Other Costs, and Contingency) is approximately 745.301 billion VND (Vietnamese Dong).
